April 2nd marks World Autism Awareness Day.

World Autism Awareness Day is a day sanctioned by the United Nations ten years ago to “highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of those with autism so they can lead full and meaningful lives as an integral part of society.”

It’s a day for all individuals on the autism spectrum regardless of gender, nationality or cultural background. A day to recognise the very real struggles they face, and to celebrate the wonderful contributions they make to our community. Most importantly, it’s a day to show the world how proud we are of the incredible individuals those on the Spectrum are.

On April 2nd, people across the globe will 'light up blue' to celebrate the occasion. Even monumental buildings such as the Sydney Opera House, The Empire State Building and more will shine blue to raise the profile of Autism across the world.

Lend a hand to Hugo encourages our community to share stories and photos today.

It’s important to remember that while we’re all very aware and understand autism, there are still a vast number of people out there who are not. Today is an opportunity for us to unite and shine a light on autism in support of all individuals on the spectrum and the families who love them.

Throughout the month of April, Lend a hand to Hugo will be celebrating the month as Autism Awareness month. Stay tuned to www.lendahandtohugo.org and follow us on social media to stay up to date with what is happening!

Throughout April, Lend a hand to Hugo will be selling fundraising wrist bands, blazer pins and more to raise further awareness of autism. Click here to see the full range of merchandise.
